Some machines have been running for decades. Not every day, perhaps only a few hours a month, but when they do run, they simply have to work.
Recently, we had the opportunity to contribute our thinking to a project for Velmon Group. They were overhauling a shear from the Dutch Ministry of Defence that had been in service for many years. The original blades were worn out and were no longer available as spare parts. There were no technical drawings either.
In situations like this, we are happy to help find a solution. We carefully measure the existing product and recreate it in full in 3D. This is more precise work than it may seem: because components wear over time, the measurements taken can sometimes differ from the original dimensions by tenths of a millimetre.
Timing is important too. The more a component wears, the more difficult it becomes to reliably reproduce the original dimensions. If an original part is no longer available, it is best to act in good time. Using our experience and measurement methods, we get as close as possible to the original specification, ensuring that the new set of blades fits properly and functions as intended.
The result: the shear can continue operating for years to come, without the need to replace the entire installation. No wasted capital, no new machine, simply a second life for a component that can still do its job perfectly well.
